There’s nothing quite like Christmas travel, especially if you’re going to Maui.  It’s the best Christmas present you could ever give yourself.  You can escape the cold weather and relax and enjoy beautiful, sunny beaches and exciting things to do.

“Mele Kalikimaka”, that’s how you’ll be greeted while visiting Maui at Christmas.  This is how the Hawaiians say Merry Christmas.  You’ll find that even Christmas dinner is a departure from our customary turkey and stuffing.  In Maui it usually consists of a backyard luau complete with a pig roasted in an underground pit.  What a treat!

Plan to take a short drive to Lahaina while you are in Maui to enjoy the lighting of the historic Banyan Tree with thousands of beautiful colored lights.  While there you will see Santa Claus island style.  He may even make his appearance in a shiny red outrigger canoe.  Also, you will see the World Culture Exchange Hula performances and watch kids play in the real snow at the “snow zone” with the Hawaiian snowman.

Bikinis and Santa hats are a common sight on the beach at Christmas time.  You won’t find thick blankets of snow or popsicle temperatures unless you take a trip to the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island.

The Norfolk pin, which grows in Hawaii, is the most popular Christmas tree with local residents.  Palm trees are frequently decorated, especially in outdoor displays and neighborhood yards.  Over 100,000 trees (Douglas fir, Spruce, Silver Tip, etc.) arrive each year right after Thanksgiving on refrigerated ships and by air.

The beautiful red poinsettia flower grows in abundance in Hawaii.   Wreaths are made of beautiful bright colored flowers and greenery from the foliage of the macadamia tree.

Christmas is always a little different at the Mana Kai Resort in Maui, but where else can you find so many fun things to do and so much beauty to surround yourself with?
